The pro-NPP group captured on video training and operating from the Osu Castle has sued journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni and The Multimedia Group.

The self-styled security company wants the two convicted of defamation and compensation of 10 million Ghana cedis paid to it

In a writ filed Wednesday, De-Eye group contends that a recent JoyNews documentary showing its members marching on the Castle gardens was defamatory. The reference to the group as a militia group in the JoyNews documentary is slanderous, the writ argues.

Consequently, the group wants an order by the court restraining JoyNews from continuing to air the video in which it has been referred to as militia group.

The two-page writ also demands a retraction and an apology from Joy News and Manasseh and same published on the station and the Daily Graphic.

They want general damages and costs, including legal fees borne by the journalist and his station as well as 10 million cedis compensatory damages.

A recent investigative documentary by JoyNews showed a group of suit-wearing men and women stationed at the Castle which until 2013 was the seat of government.

Even though the group stated on their website that it was a security company, investigations by JoyNews found it was unlicensed.

A slew of contradictory explanations from government sources muddied things beyond salvaging.

De-Eye, however, believes it can salvage from the court what it couldn’t retrieve through spokespersons.

The writ has been served on the two defendants who have eight days within which to file their defence.
