Ghanaian attacker Solomon Asante captained Phoenix Rising to the USL championship final after they were crowned champions of the Western Conference.
Asante led Phoenix to overcome El Paso Locomotive FC in the final of the Western Conference on penalties.
The game finished 1-1 in regulation time with Phoenix winning the shootout 4-2.
Jordan Schweitzer opened things up for Phoenix in the 17th minute after his shot deflected off the top of the crossbar and in.
It looked to be smooth-sailing for Phoenix going into halftime, but El Paso got aggressive in the second half.
Bryam Rebellon would score the equalizer for El Paso, setting and rocketing a shot over Lubin in the 59th minute.
But both teams would fail to get any offense going for the remainder of the game, setting up extra-time but no goal was produced.
The game thus had to be decided in the penalty shootout with Rising goalie Lubin the hero.
Rising will now travel to Tampa Bay to take on the Rowdies in the league final on Sunday, November 1.
